Rafeek Kikabhoy & Chan Hei Man crowned at first ever Wingfoil Racing Asian Championships

Hong Kong riders Rafeek Kikabhoy and Chan Hei Man Hayley crowned in the first ever 2023 Wingfoil Racing Asian Championships, both secured the tickets to the ANOC World Beach Games which will hold in Bali,Indonesia in the coming August.

Chan Hei Man won most of the races without challenge in the women’s fleet among the 4 game days. The 2012 and 2020 olympian and double Asian Games medalist, all on an RS:X windsurfer, this was only her second competition after having a baby in last October, trys to add another title to her already impressive resume.

The men’s fleet was a nail biting competition. Kikabhoy had a slow start in the competition but on day 3 he won all 6 races and climbed to pole position going into the final day and then kept his nerve and managed to keep his competition behind him. Early leader Ho Chi Ho, saw his lead slip away in the later stages of the competition and had to settle for bronze.

Wingfoil is confirmed to add to ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023, replacing Kitefoil on the programme. The winners of the continental qualification events will be allocated one quota place. Since there are two quotas in each gender per NOC, other athletes still could fight for the qualification in the World Cup Series AWBG Qualifier which would be held in Garda,Italy between 31 May to 4 June. WAHK will submit the representative name list pursuant to the selection guideline to SF&OC for the final approval.
